Calling all knitters, crocheters, sewers, and other crafty people!
I've had lots of people tell me that they'd like to get involved in fundraising but haven't been able to think of a way to contribute. I had a think about it, and as always I do my best thinking while I'm knitting - then suddenly it struck me! Many of you will know that I knit pretty obsessively - in fact, many of you will have seen me knitting away behind the desk at Paws Here from time to time! I also know that lots of friends of the shop know their way around a set of knitting needles, or crochet hooks, or sewing needles/machine etc. We certainly seem to have a lot of very talented friends!

As part of our fundraising attempts I would like to ask any crafty people who have a little bit of spare time, yarn and/or fabric to consider making some small cat toys such as this and sending them in to us here.

The way this works is that we then sell the cat toys here in the shop from a special box on the front desk, with a label stating that they are hand made by friends of the shop, and that all proceeds go into our rescue fund which enables us to take on more animals.

Rabbit toys are also wonderful, if you can knit a carrot or apple or anything bunnies would like (they play with these like cats do). Also more complex items such as small dog coats, cat/small dog beds and cushions, small animal hammocks (for rats, hamsters etc), "cuddle cups" and sleeping bags for rats, guinea pigs etc. There are lots and lots of free patterns online, or you could try inventing a pattern yourself! If anyone has a pattern they would like to share with others, then post a link to it in the comments to this entry.

Items can be brought into the shop, or sent to:

Paws Here
135 Comiston Road
Edinburgh
Scotland
EH10 6AQ

These items will be available to order from the website as well, so our friends who live further away can also have a Paws Here hand made item and support our rescues!

I want to say thanks to everyone who has been so supportive of Paws Here lately. I can't believe the level of support we've had from our friends and it re-affirms my faith in what we are doing. More and more rescues are coming in all the time - to give you a clue of what we are coping with, we now have 25 rabbits who are looking for homes or will be looking for homes in the near future and I am being asked almost daily if we have space for more. If you know anyone at all who is looking for pet rabbits, please please point them in our direction.

Also, feel free to let people know about this journal, and if you know any crafty people feel free to ask them to consider making a cat toy or two for us. You can post about this in your own journals, on your websites, anywhere!

So here we go... ready, set, KNIT!

Your mention of rescue rabbits reminded me that National Rabbit Week is coming up.

I did a search for events in Edinburgh, but it doesn't look like there are any listed :o(

Are you guys planning anything special for that week?

If so, it occurs to me that all the conscientious bunny owners in Edinburgh would see your event listed (which would lead to awareness of your shop, and hopefully MONEY!).

Um. That's all I wanted to say :oP

You might also consider posting this is some active craft communities on LJ - knitting comes to mind - of course they have different policies about fundraising, so best to contact the mods first.

Found my way here via Wendy Knits - going to root through my scrap yarn box right now :)
