Many of you know the story of Basil, our big wonderful rescue bunny who was kept in such poor conditions before he came to us that his health has been permanently and severely damaged. For those who don't know about Basil, you can read about him by clicking here.

Basil is one of our permanent residents, who lives with foster carers Andy and Marie. He needs a lot of specialist care due to the ongoing health problems he suffers.

Sadly this weekend we recieved an urgent phone call from his foster home - Basil has become very ill and has had to be rushed in to the Veterinary Hospital, where he is in Intensive Care. After a full check of Basil, the specialists have found that his teeth are once again causing him problems, leading to an upset gut and exacerbating his eye problems. At the moment Basil is too weak for the dental surgery he needs, but after hydration, syringe feeding and pain medication it is hoped that by tomorrow he will be well enough to have the surgery.

As with all Basil's problems, it frustrates me that his teeth issues could have so easily been prevented had he been fed and kept right when he was younger. His life threatening ill health now, even when receiving the very best care, is a direct result of the neglect he suffered.

Basil's hospital stay and surgery will cost the shelter around £300, which we are now desperately trying to raise.

Please keep Basil in your thoughts - he is a wonderful, gentle young bunny who has never shown anything but quiet affection, even when he is in a life or death situation as he is now.

And if anyone can make a donation, hold a fundraiser, or offer help in any other way then please do.

Donations can be made here.

Thank you.

Gentle hugs to Basil
What a gorgeous bunny with the sweetest of faces. Just hoping he can hang in there, get up his strength and have the op that will make him better. It's so sad that his pain and suffering could have been prevented, but hopefully it will remind others of the importance the right feeding and care, keeping a close eye on small furries for signs of problems brewing and always getting prompt advice from a reliable vet or rodentologist.

Hugs and warm wishes from the furred and non-furred folk in our household,

Kim, Rob, Griff, Malcolm and Herbie x

Praying for Basil
We're praying for Basil here at Yarnmarket in the US. We hope our contribution helps toward his medical care. Please keep us posted on how he's doing!

Basil Update

I am Basils Fosster carer , I have just heard he is still unwell but should be well enough to have the dental surgery and tear duct flush he desperately needs today . Then hopefully in the next couple of days he can come back here for some TLC and I will continue his nursing . All will depend on his ability to handle the operation today . Poor boy he is such a fighter .

Thanks Marie
